Review: Daiso
Daiso in Japantown in San Fransciso was a mandatory stop when I visited the City. Great pratical office supplies, cute presents, and surprises! The hangout scene on the Peace Plaza was always hopping. A great time.
Diaso has opened stores all over in the past 5-10 years, so not only is there a store now about a mile from my Mom’s house in California, but there’s one about 10 miles from my house in Portland!
Sadly, the Vancouver Washington Daiso is a disappointment. Maybe they all are at this point. It was the 100 yen store, so everything was $1.50, with some things being a little more expensive. 100 yen is now 68 cents, but the base price at Daiso is now $2.25. But probably only a third of the items are that price.

The selection is not great either. There are these plastic folders that I like, that have clasps on them so they can stay closed, and fit into my file cabinet. I can keep transcripts, notes, hard drives, photos, newspaper clippings, all that’s needed for an audio project in one folder. That’s my favorite Daiso product. It’s not available in Vancouver.
I”m not a big fan of their self check out either.
My expectations and experiences in Daiso is it’s like shopping in another country. Daiso Vancouver feels like your in american and spending money on dumb plastic shit that you don’t need, or I don’t need. I did get some kitchen items, slippers, a birthday present, and some tiny little envelopes -I’m a sucker for them! It wasn’t hard to leave, and I’m not excited about going back.
